How did we get here? Well, it all started with a dress; a pretty, short red dress.
As I was doom-scrolling on Instagram, this dress popped up on my feed. I couldn’t resist. The price wasn’t listed (why do some sellers do that?), so I sent a DM to ask. The response? 120,000 TZS (about $48 USD). Too expensive for me.
Knowing that most of these dresses are usually from Shein, I checked their site, and guess what? The same dress was only 10,000 TZS (about $4 USD)! The problem: I had no clue how to get it shipped directly to Tanzania.
So, I went down the rabbit hole, researching on Instagram and TikTok. Most of the advice wasn’t clear, so I decided to figure it out myself.
Ordering From Shein: Easy
I went to the Shein website and started selecting the items I wanted. Everything was so affordable that I ended up picking the red dress plus a few other things.Shipping Fee Problem
Here’s the catch: my shipping fee was high $25 USD (about 63,000 TZS). Not great value for money. The alternative? Save more money and order items worth over $140 USD (350,000 TZS) to get free express shipping. Worth considering if you want to save.
Tips When Ordering
Read reviews first: Make sure the product meets expectations.
Sizes are accurate: If you pick Large, it’s actually large.
Payment
You need a card that supports online payments. I used Selcom Pesa, checked out, and paid easily.Tracking Your Shein Order
I downloaded the Shein app to track my order. Every time there was an update, I got a notification. This made the process stress-free.Receiving My Package
Three weeks later, I got the good news: my package had arrived! An agent contacted me to pay additional fees before delivery: Agency Fees, TRA Customs Fee, TBS Fee, and Swissport Fee (I’ll break down the amounts in my next post). After paying those, my package was delivered to my address in about a week.
If you have any questions or need clarification, drop them in the comments . I’ll be happy to respond.
