Discovering the Art of Relaxation: My First Spa Visit in Dar es Salaam

I know what you are thinking :)  Most people in Dar es Salaam have a mindset that going to a spa always ends up with illicit activities (am sure you know what I mean). I don't blame you lot, because most spas have diverted from the main purpose to some other "purpose".

Seeing it in movies and reading it in novels, going to a spa is something I always wanted to try. It looked luxurious, fancy, and relaxing.

On one fine day...

I had planned this for the longest time but kept procrastinating. So on this specific day I had a terrible backache and thought why not; booked an evening session and the rest was history.

My First Spa Treatment

The relaxation started as soon as I entered the spa, the environment was so serene, the interior design on point, and the customer service top-notch. The masseuse (a woman who provides massage professionally.) asked me what kind of service I wanted, and of course, I chose Swedish massage as I did a little research on what I wanted before I went as there are varieties of massage services (Swedish, Thai, Deep Tissue, Aroma Therapy, Hot Stone, Indian Head, Pregnancy, etc)

She then told me to wait as she prepares the massage room, then told me to get in. The room was so calm and had an amazing aroma. She then leaves to let you change into a towel or khanga and the session starts. Head to Toe, back and front, in the mid she asks if there are any pain points which in my case was my back.

It's almost an hour session, and after that, she asks if you need a shower or a hot towel rub to clean up. After that, you pay and leave.

The session was so relaxing and felt really good, and the massage oil smells amazing. You actually leave the massage room smelling like a snack.

Price of a spa treatment

From my little research, found out the price ranges from 20,000 TZS  -120000TZS  (9$-50$). Could be higher in high-end hotels.

My take on the experience

If you want to have a spa experience, take time and do your research to avoid unprofessional spas. I highly recommend a spa session if you need to relax or pamper yourself a bit. I would definitely do it again.

Update :

Well, I have been to the spa 3 times already; and I have decided to make it a tradition. The experience is to die for.

As a part of self-care, will be doing spa visits quarterly. Got this spa spot that is by the beach, has amazing services, and very affordable prices. So I chose this package named "The Spa Experience"; you get a full body scrub, full body massage, pedicure, and a facial.
