I always wanted to have my own place that I admit, considering the fact that I resided at the college hostel during my college years. But deep inside I always wished that I could have my own place, the main reason was that it could be easier to customize my room and keep it the way I want, that's what really excited me. Like choosing the kind of furniture you want, the decor and all that.
I am an introvert, and when it comes to introverts most of our time is spent in our places, our safe havens. Considering that I wanted my place to feel like home, and to look all good and unique and to reflect my personality.
So years went by and I completed my college studies (4 years to be exact ) and it was time to move out. The excitement was real, but accompanied by moving out came other challenges. You see it was easy to just think about it but making a reality was the big deal.
The first challenge was looking for a good place; with high security, close to the main road and other important services, with a constant supply of water and electricity. So that was the first step and well most places I went to were not exactly what I wanted. I wanted a good place at an affordable price because I was just moving out.
I later got a place that wasn't perfect but it wasn't too bad.
The next challenge was how do I pay rent considering the fact that I was just out of college and I didn't have a stable income. Most landlords require a 6 months rent upfront and 1-month payment for the broker (equivalent to a one month rent). But I conquered that too.

The other big challenge was how do I get the assets. I love the good stuff, and good stuff is expensive. It's obvious I couldn't get everything I wanted all at once (though deep inside that is what I wanted ). What I did was that I visualized how I wanted my place to be and then I made a list of the things I wanted, gave them priorities and that was it.
So I started with the basic stuff, and then with time, I ticked my list one by one. And there were times I bought things that were not on the list though.

Moving to my own place shaped me in so many ways, I had to learn to budget so that I can pay my bills (water and electricity bills, emergencies, rent ) and buy the assets needed, and turn my place into a home. I learned to be more independent, and am not the same girl I was a few months ago.

When I moved in, honestly the first days felt weird but I coped. I am not there yet but I am close to where I want to be.
