I have always had a thing for turtle necks/high neck or pull necks as most people call them. For me, a turtle neck gives a person this classic, elegant look. It emits the confidence and class of a person.
Both men and women can put on a turtle neck.

HISTORY

• Polo neck-like garments have been worn for hundreds of years, dating at least to the 15th century.

• From the late 19th century on, polo necks were commonly worn by menial workers, athletes, sailors, and naval officers. 
• Since the middle of the 20th-century black polo necks have been closely associated with radical academics, philosophers, artists, and intellectuals.

• Polo necks also became a big fashion for young wealthy men.
• Over time it became a fashion among teenage girls, especially in a lightweight form that emphasized their figures.
• By the late 1950s, the "tight turtleneck" had been adopted as part of the style among students, a style emphasizing neatness, tidiness, and grooming. 

TURTLENECKS FOR WOMEN

With a high neckline, a turtleneck can be hard to accessorize. Keep your look simple and let the turtleneck do the talking. Accessorize with one or two simple pieces to tie your look together. Opt for a pair of gold hoops and your hair in a ponytail for a pulled-together look. Or add a delicate and simple necklace from and pair with a few bangles or bracelets to add some shine. 

How to wear a turtleneck?

1. With a suit – pair a ribbed turtleneck sweater under a suit for a new look at work
2. With leggings – keep it comfy and pair an oversized sweater with leggings for an effortless style
3. Tucked into your fav mini skirt – mix your high-neckline with a short mini-skirt and pair with tall boots or tights if its cold outside
4. As a layering piece – wear under a dress, jumpsuit or button-up shirt for a look that’s straight off the runway
5. Sleeveless – add on a cardigan to layer your look or show off your arms and just grab a pair of jeans to show off your style
6. With Skinny Jeans/trouser/short/3 quarters trouser- You can tuck in or not depending on your preferences.

Though it’s often been overlooked in men’s fashion and seen as outdated, the turtleneck is making a comeback among stylish gentlemen.
